Earl Grey Tea

Earl Grey tea is one of the most popular blends of tea and has remained on top of tea lovers’ lists for many years. It is served in virtually every cup in homes from Asia to America. Here are 7 fascinating things you probably didn’t know about Earl Grey tea:
1. Earl Grey tea was once only used to refer to black tea.
Black tea is considered as the most commonly made available tea today, often used in both iced and hot drinks. Many years ago, black tea was the type of tea used and labeled as Earl Grey.
These days, however, the term ‘Earl Grey’ has also been used to label other types of green teas and tisanes, such as oolong, white tea and rooibos. I have to say Earl Grey is not my favorite cup of tea, I myself find the taste to be too perfumed however millions of tea lovers and tea suppliers will not agree with me.
Never mind.

Ceylon Tea
Filed Under Tea Blends | Leave a Comment
Ceylon tea is a type of black tea.
The Ceylon tea served at restaurants or those that come in packages you buy at grocery stores are actually a type of black tea. It is so named because of the method used to process and prepare the tea.
After they are picked, black Ceylon tea leaves are semi-dried so they retain enough moisture to allow them to remain supple. The leaves are then allowed to oxidize, exposing them to the air, which produces their dark color. The remaining moisture in the leaves then hastens the fermentation process.
Before they totally break down and lose their flavor, the leaves are fired to prevent further fermentation and then packaged. This process allows tea manufacturers to bring out and retain the leaves’ flavor and aroma.
